Project: Palawud Restaurant
Location: Banago, Bacolod City
Architect: Arch Ian Jay Bantilan
Status: Constructed 2013
The project is on a prime beach side lot in Bacolod City. The land has been used as a shipyard. Countless developments are created along the main highway away from the beach.
The project calls for a nature themed restaurant for both families and young professionals in Bacolod. Having a lot that borders a waterscape, much less the sea is a precious peice of real estate. Nevertheless, the challenge is still to redeem the area as it is dominated by low cost houses.
The thrust is to create an unique selling proposition by crafting the use of native materials, specifically bamboo and combining it with modern methods of construction to produce a new synergy. Careful planning is also given to common problems on building on the sea – strong winds and typhoons which on hotter seasons can be refreshing.
Creating an icon on a structure that is 50 meters away from the main road involves creativity and deliberate design. I hope that this restaurant can indeed refresh, serve and enlighten your day.
