Project: 3 Bedroom Modern Bungalow House, Pavia, Iloilo
Location: Pavia, Iloilo City
Architect: Arch Ian Jay Bantilan
Status: Architecture Design
The owner is an Filipino OFW working in the US. The requirements for the project is to create a unique 3 bedroom bungalow that will provide a residence for him and his family during holidays and summer.
The concept for the house is simple lines creating spatial delineation between the public and private spaces. Then I proceeded to craft the language of the facade to create a rhythm that will resonate into the details of the house.
I purposely placed the utilities along side the public areas but a simple wall keeps the balance of spaces. For lighter divisions I also played with varying wall types and materials.
The rear is an extensible informal open area that breathes into the wide lawn. The whole composition ends in a strong language of lines and planes but elegant.
The summer heat and humidity is a constant problem in Iloilo especially considering the low altitude of the city. Special concern is given to allow light breezes into the house. Sunlight and Ventilation are the main considerations – positioning windows at specific angles of Philippine local breezes.
